North Vermilion's Charpentier gets game-winning hit

LEROY – The North Vermilion Lady Patriots advanced to the semifinals of the Division II Non-Select playoffs with a thrilling 1-0 victory over the Iowa Lady Yellow Jackets.
The Lady Pats won the game in walk-off fashion, scoring the game’s only run in the bottom of the seventh.

Three Vermilion Parish baseball teams gear up for playoffs

Three parish baseball teams have moved on to the second round of the LHSAA baseball playoffs.
All three teams will be playing at home starting Friday.
Vermilion Catholic, Erath, and North Vermilion all received first-round byes. Their second-round games are all at home.
The second round of games will be a three-game series for North Vermilion and Erath.
VC is only one game.

Kaplan Lady Pirates eliminated from playoffs

KAPLAN - The Kaplan Lady Pirates quest to repeat as Division III Non-Select State Champions came to a halt Saturday as they fell to the Jena Lady Giants 4-3.
Kaplan (27-6) had the tying run on second base with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Jena’s pitching and defense held, ending the Lady Pirates’ season.
“Things just didn’t go our way,” said head coach Brittany LeBeouf. “We had runners in scoring position the first three innings and we couldn’t scratch a run across. That’s sometimes how the game goes.”

North Vermilion’s Gibson throws no-no, Lady Pats advance

LEROY – The North Vermilion Lady Patriots advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division II Non-Select playoffs with a 5-0 second-round win over the Minden Lady Tiders Wednesday afternoon.
Kallie Gibson got the start in the circle and delivered a no-hitter. The sophomore right-hander struck out 14 in seven innings and only faced two batters over the minimum.
North Vermilion head coach Richard Prejean wasn’t surprised by the performance of his young hurler. The signs have been there that something big was coming.

Kaplan Lady Pirates dominate in round 2

KAPLAN – After a first-round bye, the No. 4 Kaplan Lady Pirates began their march back to Sulphur with a dominate 11-0 victory over the No. 13 St James Lady Wildcats Tuesday.
The defending Division III Non-Select state champions started on the right foot, but it wasn’t without a scare.
Senior hurler Briley LeBeouf started feeling bad on Saturday. Doctors diagnosed her with strep. By Monday, it was evident LeBeouf would not being able to play.
