Abbeville High hires former LSU player as its new head football coach

Abbeville High School’s new head football coach has been mentored by the best college football coach of all time, one of the top high school football coaches in Louisiana, and several NFL assistant football coaches.
Abbeville High Principal Phillip Freeman announced that he hired Jonathan Zenon as the school’s new head coach. 
Zenon graduated from Breaux Bridge High School in the early 2000s and helped lead the Tigers to the quarterfinal round in the playoffs under former Breaux Bridge coach Mike Mowad.

Kaplan players land on Coaches' 3A All-State Softball team

Here are the names of the Class 3A Coaches' All-State Team announced this past weekend.
Kaplan landed three players on the team.
Pitcher Briley LeBeouf and infielders Kennedy Marceaux make the team.
Here are the rest of the players:

Pitchers
Olivia Henry, Sr., Buckeye; Kiette Cooper, So., Jena; Briley LeBeouf, Sr., Kaplan; Ava Kordish, Sr. Pine Prairie

Catchers
Cydney Kate Parker, Sr., Jena; Madison Mackson, Fr., Parkview Baptist

Coach Gidge’s Gym at Vermilion Catholic gets needed upgrades

After a nine-month delay, the floor in Coach Kim “Gidge” Gymnasium at Vermilion Catholic has finally been replaced.
Well, not exactly. 
There would be one more hurdle to clear, and the solution kept the old floor in place.
“We had rescheduled it for March 1st, once basketball was over,” explained VC Athletic Director Kim Guidry. “The next problem was they had asbestos underneath so that they couldn’t pick up the floor. The solution was to come on top of the floor.”

Erath dominates 5-3A All-District First Team

After winning their fifth-consecutive district championship, the Erath Bobcats dominated the 2024 5-3A All-District Team with nine first team selections, three second team selections, and one honorable mention selection.
Bobcats’ junior pitcher and infielder Seth Leger captured Player of the Year honors while Erath skipper Jeremy Picard won Coach of the Year.
Also landing on the first team for Erath were pitcher Braxton Richard, catcher Brennan Broussard, short stop Thomas Collins, and second baseman Dominic Frederick.

Three North Vermilion players land on 1st team 4-4A All-District Team

Fresh off their state championship game appearance, the North Vermilion Patriots landed 13 players on the District 4-4A all-district team.  
NV placed three on the first team, five on the second team, and five on the honorable mention team.
Landing on the first team are pitcher Blaze Duhon (2-2 in district), catcher Cody Breaux (.379 average) and Colton Jeansonne as a utility player.
