VC pitcher Taylor Abshire

VC's Taylor Abshire named district MVP

Vermilion Catholic senior Taylor Abshire helped lead the Lady Eagles to the Division IV State Finals, along with the outright district title.
The coaches recently voted Abshire the MVP in District 7-A.
VC coach Kim Guidry said,”Taylor is a hard worker, compassionate and an outstanding young lady. She will leave large shoes to fill.”
Coach of the Year in district went to VC’s Jesse Faulk.
VC had four players land on the girls’ all-district first team, counting Abshire.

Alex Detraz commits to play baseball at Centenary

Alex Detraz of Abbeville recently committed to play baseball for Centenary College in Shreveport. Detraz has attended St. Thomas More for the last four years. For the last two years he played first base and lettered for three years. In the photo with Alex are his parents, Lisa and Dirk. Detraz is now the third baseball player from Vermilion Parish to sign with Centenary this year. Joining him on the team are VC’s Harrison and Griffin Vicknair.

Hunter Duhon hit .704 and three home runs in district for Abbeville.

Abbeville High short changed on all district baseball team

Abbeville High baseball team had only one player land either on the first or second all-district team.
Abbeville first baseman Hunter Duhon, a junior, was selected on the District 5-4A first team, which was selected by the district coaches.
Duhon hit .704 in district with three home runs.
The Wildcats finished the overall season 15-15, and they also won three district games (3-9) under second-year head coach Joey Roy.
The player of the year in district is Cale Boudreaux of Cecilia. The coach of the year is Kyle Cormier of Breaux Bridge.

Erath High's Ethan Suire wins 1600 meter state title

BATON ROUGE – Ethan Suire withstood his most challenging test on the season’s biggest stage on Saturday.
The Erath High junior needed both grit and closing speed to capture the Class 3A 1600 meter run in a time of 4:32.15 at the LHSAA State Meet at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
“The early pace was slow,” Suire said. “No one wanted to go with me. I had to set the pace, then hold on to the end.”

North Vermilion Patriots score only two runs in game three to fall

LEROY - After the North Vermilion Patriots scored 18 runs Saturday morning against Iowa in the first game of a double header, they could only score two in the second game.
The Patriots were eliminated from the Class 3A playoffs on Saturday, falling to Iowa, 8-2.
That morning, North Vermilion beat Iowa 18-7 to force a third and final game.

The game was tied at two with Iowa batting in the top of the sixth when Iowa’s Hanson Raymond singled off of NV pitcher Bryce Landry, driving in one run and putting Iowa ahead for good.
