ABBEVILLE – The Gulf Coast Bank 29ers fell to the STM Navy 6-0 on Tuesday at Roy Theriot Field.
GCB (4-4) fell behind 1-0 in the third inning and that’s how the score stayed until the seventh inning when STM scored five runs to break open the close game.
Thomas Collins started on the mound for the 29ers and took the tough loss. The southpaw pitched five and two-thirds innings of no-hit baseball, allowing one run on four walks while striking out seven.
Former Kaplan High standout Jed Devoltz has signed to play football at Andrew College in Georgia.

Andrew College is in Cuthbert, GA, located in the southwest corner of the state. It is the ninth oldest college in the state, is a private university, and is associated with the United Methodist Church and the National Junior College Athletic Association. Their mascot is the Tigers.
Devoltz will have plenty of opportunities to help the program grow as 2024 will be the football program’s inaugural season.

The Gulf Coast Bank 29ers capped off their week with a 10-0 shut-out victory over the Carencro Aces Thursday night at Roy Theriot Field.
GCB (4-3) took advantage of nine walks and pounded nine hits to end the game by mercy rule after five innings.
Gabe Horton got the start on the bump for the 29ers. He pitched the complete game, allowing zero runs on four hits and zero walks while striking out six.
29ers head coach Trey DeRouen liked the patience his team showed at the plate. He was equally impressed by the performance of Horton, especially his breaking ball.

The Abbeville Wildcats hosted a two-day team camp in their gymnasium last Monday and Tuesday.
Several local schools and schools from around the state participated. The Wildcats were joined by Kaplan, VC, Midland, Vanderbilt Catholic, Merryville, Covenant Christian, Lake Charles College Prep, Northside, Jeanerette, Southside, St. Martinville, Cecilia, Comeaux, and Loreauville.
Wildcats head coach Trevor Eaton is in year two of hosting the camp. He took the idea from North Vermilion coach Jack LeBlanc a few years ago.
