Abbeville's Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4158 gives service awards

On Tuesday evening, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4158 held an awards dinner to show appreciation for those who serve Vermilion Parish.
Post commander Derek Poore oversaw the event, which was well attended by the winners’ family and friends and post members.
Everyone was treated to shrimp stew, and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board donated the shrimp.
Each year, the local post recognizes individuals who are firefighters, law enforcement officers, teachers, or emergency responders.

Vermilion Parish animal shelter better 10 years after death of three dogs

NUNEZ - Sasha, Pepper, and Ringo were the names of the three dogs who unknowingly sacrificed their lives to save 13,923 animals in Vermilion Parish. The Vermilion Parish Rabies Animal Control Facility euthanized the dogs on March 6, 2014, leading to this unexpected outcome.
The national attention was captured when miscommunication between the rabies control center and Community Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) led to the euthanization of three dogs that were supposed to be rescued that day. CARA had been instructed to pick up the dogs by 8 a.m.

Erath man sentenced in drug trafficking network at Angola State Prison

BATON ROUGE - An investigation into a drug trafficking network in the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola led to the sentencing of 13 people including guards and inmates, one of them from Erath.
Michael Augustine, 44, from Erath, received a 51-month federal prison sentence. He was convicted of conspiring to distribute marijuana and methamphetamine. The court also sentenced Augustine to serve three years of supervised release following his term of imprisonment.
