Louisiana Governor Landry Signs Executive Order: Issues Disaster Declaration for Crawfish Industry

BATON ROUGE, La. — On Wednesday, Governor Jeff Landry signed an Executive Order issuing a Disaster Declaration for the Crawfish Aquaculture Industry.
In February, Congressman Troy Carter and Congressman Clay Higgins requested Governor Landry issue a statewide disaster declaration in the crawfish aquaculture industry to assist in securing federal resources.

Vermilion Economic Development, Police Jury partner to leverage $2.1 million in grant funds

The Vermilion Economic Development Alliance and the Vermilion Parish Police Jury are currently partnering on three projects that would bring $2.1 million dollars of federal money back to the parish.
As part of the Hometown Revitalization Program, grant dollars will be used on economic revitalization in three designated Low-to-Moderate Income (LMI) areas that were either impacted by Hurricanes Laura, Delta, and Ida or the severe weather events in 2021.

North Vermilion students building experience

High school is a journey that helps students build upon a foundation for a productive future.
Building is a big part of the present for a half dozen students at North Vermilion High School.
The NV Industrial Arts Department students have worked on numerous projects, including the recent construction of Adirondack chairs and picnic tables. The students built four chairs, which are currently available for sale.

Abbeville man convicted of distributing fentanyl sentenced

LAFAYETTE, La. – United States Attorney Brandon B. Brown announced that Gabriel Hawthorne, 41, of Abbeville, Louisiana, has been sentenced for conspiring to distribute fentanyl in the Abbeville area. United States District Judge Robert R. Summerhays sentenced Hawthorne to 120 months (10 years) in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.

Gov. Landry aims to reverse reforms in Special Session on crime

BATON ROUGE—Newly-elected Republican Gov. Jeff Landry called on lawmakers Monday to erase many of the criminal justice reforms signed by his Democratic predecessor in 2017, urging them to limit parole and good time, expand the death penalty and toughen juvenile justice.
