The North Vermilion High community is mourning the loss of one of its own. A woman who graduated from North Vermilion High School in 2015 and worked for the Baton Rouge mayor was killed in a car crash in Baton Rouge on Sunday.
According to The Advocate newspaper, 26-year-old Simone Pillette was driving a 2014 Lincoln MKZ on Interstate 12 eastbound around 1 a.m. on Sunday when the front driver’s side tire collided with the rear tire of a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. As a result, she veered off the road, struck a tree, and her car was engulfed in flames.

POLLOCK, La. Vermilion Parish has two out of the 12 honorees inducted into the Louisiana 4-H Hall of Fame during a ceremony held Aug. 10 at the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center.
The 12 inductees have a collective 325 years of participation and service to Louisiana 4-H.
With five children who all went through 4-H, Madlyn Zaunbrecher has seen many beneficial aspects of 4-H. A teacher and 4-H club leader, Zaunbrecher was honored to get inducted into the Hall of Fame with the teacher she worked with when she was a student teacher, Brenda Myers.

GUEYDAN—The Gueydan Aldermen faced opposition from around 20 residents who were unhappy with the proposal to double the rental fee for the town’s civic center. Rather than proceed with the increase, the board postponed the rental increase.
A special meeting was held Tuesday night to introduce an ordinance increasing the town’s gas, sewer, and electrical rates. The board voted to introduce the ordinances; however, because it was only a meeting to introduce them, there was no discussion about the newly proposed rates.
