Kaplan senior helping city of Abbeville create its first Youth Advisory Council

There is a good chance that numerous students sitting in high school classrooms will be making decisions at the table for government entities in the future.
If not in elected capacities, today’s youth will be future leaders through roles in business and civic organizations.
Coeyn Wise, a senior at Kaplan High School who recently won election as Governor during Louisiana Boys State, sees an opportunity for current local decision-makers to strengthen the voices of those who will one day fill their shoes.

72nd Annual Delcambre Shrimp Festival

DELCAMBRE — There is a buzz and energy that can be felt around Delcambre right now.
That’s because the Delcambre Shrimp Festival is underway.
“Everybody is excited to celebrate the 72nd Annual Delcambre Shrimp Festival,” Shrimp Festival President Jason Migues said.
This should be the 74th version, as the festival began in 1950.  It couldn’t take place in 2020 and ‘21, due to COVID-19. Still, Migues is left impressed by the festival’s history.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana Senator Bob Hensgens was unanimously elected chair of the Energy and Environment Committee for The Council of State Governments Southern Office (CSG South) by members of the committee during the 78th Annual Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) held on July 21 - 25 at the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia.

Vermilion Parish: Standoff ends peacefully

On the afternoon of Aug. 8, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office received a request from the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office to present an Order of Protective Custody to a subject who was reportedly suicidal.
Deputies were dispatched to the subject’s residence where Abbeville Police Department was already on scene attempting to make contact with the subject. After numerous attempts, the officers remained unsuccessful and no response was received from inside the residence.
