Erath mom thanks Abbeville player for helping her son off the football field

ERATH - Abbeville High junior Michael Rice did not think what he did was a big deal. He saw a player that needed help, so he helped him.
Rice is a member of the Wildcats’ football team who played in a junior varsity football game against the Erath Bobcats.
Rice was playing defensive back, and after a run-play by Erath quarterback Griffin LeBlanc, Rice helped chase him. Then, Rice noticed LeBlanc’s wrist did not look right. Rice saw LeBlanc in pain. Rice put his arms under LeBlanc’s arms and lifted him off the ground. Rice helped LeBlanc walk to the Erath sideline.

A lot riding on Central Catholic/VC game

Who would have thought that the last regular-season game for the Vermilion Catholic Eagles has so much riding on it.
The Eagles (6-3) travel to Central Catholic (6-2) tonight to close out the regular season.
The kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
For starters, the winner of tonight’s game will be crowned the outright district champ. Both teams are 4-0 in the district.
Then, there are playoff implications for Vermilion Catholic. Unofficially, according to Geauxpreps.com, VC is at No. 7 in the Division IV power standings.

Youth team wears pink

The North Vermilion 9-10 year old youth football team went all pink this month in honor of Breast Cancer Aware month.
In the past, the team normally wears pink socks and pink shoe strings.
But this year, they stepped up their pink attire.
Coach Scott Wilcox and his company Still Water Concrete Pumping, provided the team with a surprising gift.
The company purchased pink jerseys for the entire team. They will wear the jerseys throughout October.
Coach Scott is no stranger to Breastr Cancer. His mother is a breast cancer survivor.

Abbeville has ‘fun’ game against Rayville

There are stressful football games, and then there are fun football games. Most football players enjoy playing fun football games.
That was the case Friday night in Abbeville’s lopsided 54-6 win over Class 2A Rayville Hornets.
The Hornets drove four hours from north Louisiana to play the Wildcats.
By the time they got warmed up, Rayville was down 12-0.
Heck, 10 seconds into the game, they were losing 6-0 after Abbeville kick returner Blake Saddler ran the opening kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown.

Good test for Abbeville

The Class 2A Rayville Hornets (5-2) are making a rare visit to Wildcats Stadium in Abbeville on Friday.
The Hornets and the Wildcats agreed to play one another when Rayville head coach Joeseph Purvis needed a Week 8 opponent. He called his friend and Sterlington High classmate Roderick Moy, looking for Kaplan’s telephone number. Purvis had heard Kaplan was also in search of a Week 8 opponent.
To Purvis’ surprise, the Wildcats needed a Week 8 opponent, as well. Both head coaches agreed to a game, with Rayville traveling to Abbeville for the one game.
