Abbeville too much for Vermilion Catholic

Earlier this season, Abbeville coach Roderick Moy called senior running back Blake Saddler his “home run hitter” and that he needed to find a way to get the ball into his hands more than nine times a game.
Friday night against Vermilion Catholic, Moy managed to get the ball into Saddler’s hands 12 times, and the senior proceeded to hit five home runs - touchdowns of 30-plus yards, in the Wildcats’ 43-0 win over the Eagles.

‘Pee-Zee’-led Kaplan Pirates beat North Vermilion

The word “Pee-Zee” kept being said on the sideline by the Kaplan Pirates when they were on offense.
Then, in the second half, “Pee-Zee” was said again and again.
The translation of “Pee-Zee” was short for Campisi, Kaplan’s running back, Caden Campisi.
His teammates said his nickname a lot because he carried the pigskin 37 times in Kaplan’s 20-14 win over the Class 4A North Vermilion Patriots on Friday.
He carried it 18 times in the first half and 19 times in the second half.

Loreauville too much for Erath

ERATH – Erath’s Lynkon Romero to David Richard pass-catch scoring combination clicked twice Friday night in the Bobcats’ regular-season opener against Loreauville.
It wasn’t enough to offset the Tigers’ twin brothers – seniors Caleb Jacob and Collin Jacob – and a supporting cast of returning players coming off a reasonably deep postseason run a year ago in Class AA. Loreauville scored on its first three possessions in the first quarter and never looked back on the way to a 41-15 victory over the ’Cats.

Vermilion Catholic starts off well against CHS, but can’t sustain it

Vermilion Catholic had the best start possible against Catholic High Friday night.
On the Panthers’ first possession of the game, Vermilion Catholic blocked a punt, and Travin Moore recovered it in the endzone for a touchdown and a quick 6-0 lead.
Even the missed extra-point after wasn’t too much of a letdown for the Eagles against the Panthers.
“Great job by our kids coming out on fire and making a big play early and getting that touchdown for us,” VC coach Broc Prejean said.

Abbeville runs over St. Mary’s

NACHITOCHES - The Abbeville Wildcats travelled three hours and got the win it wanted on Friday. The Wildcats wore down the St. Mary’s Tigers.
The Wildcats led 21-17 at halftime and went on to win 43-23.
The Wildcats rushed for 361 yards on 37 carries.
Running back Blake Saddler led all rushers with eight carries for 170 yards. Saddler also had a school-record 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Quaterback Jaysen Shelvin, running out of the Veer, had 10 carries for 115 yards. Shelvin and Saddler had each two touchdowns.
