Gueydan wins 13th game of the season

The Gueydan Bears dramatically took Thursday’s game, with a 7-6 walk-off victory over Hamilton Christian.
The game was tied at six with the Bears batting in the bottom of the ninth when Heath Melancon was struck by a pitch, with the bases loaded.
Melancon went to first base, and Zach Guidry scored from third base.
The Bears earned the victory despite allowing Hamilton Christian to score six runs in the fourth inning.

Five Vermilion Parish teams make girls’ playoffs

A total of five teams from Vermilion Parish made the girls’ high school basketball playoffs.
Getting in are VC, Abbeville, North Vermilion, Kaplan and Delcambre.
The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles lead a contingent of Vermilion Parish teams into the postseason as the LHSAA released its girls’ basketball playoff brackets Monday.
Vermilion Catholic (17-6) finished as the eighth seed in Division IV and will play host to No. 9 seed Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (16-11) in the opening round in a game set for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Union Parish ends Abbeville's dream season

The Union Parish Farmers showed why they reached the Class 3A state finals last year. They also showed Abbeville fans that they are not just a one-person machine.
In the quarterfinals, the No. 7 seeded Farmers beat No. 2 seeded Abbeville 45-6 on Friday in Wildcat Stadium.
The Farmers will be back to Acadiana on Friday to battle St. Martinville in the semifinals.
In only his second year, Abbeville head coach Roderick Moy was proud of his team for their outstanding 11-2 season.

Abbeville takes care of business in the second half

MONROE - Things were not looking too good for the Abbeville Wildcats at halftime despite the score being 14-14.
When the Wildcats came out of the locker room to start the second half, they walked onto the field with no emotion. Wossman, on the other hand, was jumping up and down like they were winning and had the game in control.
Wossman, the higher seed at No. 17, had upset on its mind at the start of the second half.
They held Abbeville to 70 yards rushing in the first half and had AHS tailback Blake Saddler in check.

St. Frederick too much for VC

The St. Frederick Warriors used a steady run game and a stingy defense to end Vermilion Catholic’s season by a score of 31-7. In the Division IV semifinals, the 9-2 Warriors will travel to Baton Rouge to take on Southern Lab, a 39-6 winner over Country Day. VC finishes the season at 8-4.
The Eagles knocked St. Frederick out of the playoffs last year.
St. Frederick’s run game, which ate up nearly 33 minutes of clock, was led by running back Michael Thompson, who rushed for 195 yards on 32 carries. The Warrior defense held VC to 85 yards of total offense.
