Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office arrests second juvenile in connection to Feb. shooting death

Sheriff Mike Couvillon states that through further investigation of the recent homicide of 19-year-old Dylan Walker of New Iberia, a second juvenile, who is 16 years old, has been identified as a suspect and was arrested on a warrant of First Degree Murder and Armed Robbery.
The juvenile is being held in the Lafayette Juvenile Detention Center with no bond.
The juvenile also has a criminal history consisting of Illegal Possession of Stolen Goods in the 15th Judicial District Court pending trial.
The investigation is on-going.

Vermilion Parish Task Force arrest Kaplan’s Wilson ‘Seaweed’ Hargrave

According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force made the following arrests for narcotics related offenses within the parish.
After receiving complaints in reference to suspected illegal narcotic activity, agents conducted a thorough investigation to identify the residence and its occupants.
After lengthy surveillance and covert operations, agents were able to secure a search warrant for the residence, identified at 11102 Lauren Avenue in Kaplan.

According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force made the following arrests for narcotics related offenses within the parish.
Recently, agents utilized the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team to execute a high-risk search warrant within the city limits of Abbeville located at 811 S. Louisiana.

Vermilion Parish firefighters team up to battle Abbeville house fire

Vermilion Parish firefighters joined forces to combat a house fire in Abbeville that took over an hour to control.
The Abbeville Fire Department was called to 202 West Oak Street, near the Main Fire Station, around 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Abbeville Fire Chief Jude Mire noticed the fire and realized his department would need assistance to put it out, so he contacted volunteer fire departments from Seventh Ward, Erath, Maurice, and District 13.

No plans to tear down rice mill in Abbeville says owner

Abbeville residents have been expressing their concerns lately about the old Riviana Rice Mill.
The mill has been standing for over a century and contractors have been seen removing tin from the main buildings next to the railroad track.
This has left some residents worried that once the tin is removed, the entire structure will be torn down, leaving Abbeville with a large cement slab. One resident even compared the situation to what happened to the Palms Hospital in Abbeville - despite its historical significance, the hospital was demolished for a new, larger one.
