There was some positive news that came out of last week’s school board meeting that dealt with the children of Vermilion Parish.
The school board overwhelmingly voted to bring back the summer work program for a few weeks this summer, and the board also gave the OK for the Abbeville Rotary Club to apply for grants in hopes of converting the old post office into a new, larger virtual school.

MAURICE — As the Village of Maurice has experienced remarkable growth during his time as mayor, Wayne Theriot has said many times that he does not want to see Maurice lose its village charm.
While it may never lose that feel, Maurice will eventually lose its official designation as a village.
During Wednesday’s regular Board of Aldermen meeting, Theriot updated the population estimates. At 1,896 people, it puts Maurice well over the threshold for town status.

BATON ROUGE, LA – Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry joined federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to announce the success of Operation Broken Heart – a two-month initiative to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those who produce, distribute, receive and possess child pornography; engage in online enticement of children for sexual purposes; engage in the sex trafficking of children; and travel across state lines or to foreign countries and sexually abuse children.
