Vermilion Chamber’s Centennial Celebration

When the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce began, the Roaring Twenties were just getting underway.
One century later, the Chamber remains a resounding voice for Vermilion Parish.
Members from around the parish gathered Thursday night to reflect on 100 years during a Centennial Celebration and Awards Banquet held at Magdalen Place in Abbeville.
“You only get to celebrate 100 once,” said Megan Landry-Lalande, who will serve as the Centennial President in 2020.

Sting leads to two arrests in Kaplan

According to Narcotics Task Force Commander Drew David, the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force conducted a narcotics investigation which led to the seizure of a large amount of illicit drugs within the parish.

Abbeville man allegedly stabs mother, himself

One man faces multiple charges after he allegedly stabbed his mother and himself.
According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Drew David, on the afternoon of Jan. 28, deputies were dispatched to 2395 Jacquelyn Dr. in Abbeville in reference to a Robert Curtis Hargrave Jr., 33, possibly wanting to do harm to his parents.

Update: Two Drivers Killed in Head-On Crash in Vermilion Parish

ABBEVILLE – Shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 27, Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 14 near Fore Road in Vermilion Parish.
The crash claimed the life of 29-year-old Kiristan Michelle Mitchell of Kaplan and 18-year-old Kalix James Broussard of Kaplan.

Stella Petry Broussard will run the Beignet Boogie Sunday morning in Abbeville.
Broussard suffered a massive stroke last July. Running a 5k is a goal Broussard set for
herself during recovery.

Stella Broussard said her husband, Kevin, has been “more than a rock.”

Stella Petry Broussard will take the starting line Sunday morning for the 8th annual Beignet Boogie 5k.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. on the side of Mount Carmel in Abbeville.
Broussard, 58, has run dozens of races just like this one. Only, this one is different.
Completely different.
Last July, Broussard suffered a massive stroke. During her recovery, Broussard’s wellness nurse had her set goals.
“I wanted to run,” Broussard said.
Broussard set that first goal to be met in October for the Boogie on the Boulevard in Kaplan.
