The North Vermilion Lady Patriots claimed a 5-4 victory on Saturday over St. James by scoring the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The game was tied 4--4 heading into bottom of the eighth frame.
Abigail Lopez led off the inning with a walk and she would later score the game winner thanks to an infield error.
North Vermilion took the lead with one run in the fifth inning. In the fifth, Brittney Primeaux hit a solo homer.

Abbeville head powerlifting coach Travis Werner cannot ask for a better finish from his two teams.
The Abbeville Wildcats and the Lady Wildcats finished in first place, however, tied with two other teams at the Division III State Powerlifting Meet.
In powerlifting, there are tiebreaker rules that help break the tie.
When the tiebreaker rules were applied, the Lady Wildcats finished in second place, and the Wildcats finished still tied for first place with Church Point.
Last year the Wildcats won the title outright, winning by two points.

The Kaplan Lady Pirates were tied 3-3 but went on to beat Central Catholic 6-3 in a non-district game on Wednesday.
The Lady Pirates got things started in the first inning. Lauryn Packard singled on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.
Kaplan pulled away for good with one run in the third inning. In the third inning, Janyia Small doubled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run to make it a 4-3 game.
Carina Chargois pitched Kaplan to victory. She lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out 11.
