Kaplan, Abbeville fall in first-round
The Abbeville Lady Wildcats and the Kaplan Lady Pirates were eliminated for the Class 3A playoffs.
The Lady Wildcats fell behind 12-5 in the first quarter and they were unable to recover against Loranger, the Class 3A defending state champs.
Loranger won 45-31 behind the scoring of Myan Barthelemy, who scored 22 points.
Abbeville was down 29-12 at halftime.
JaLearreia Soelv led Abbeville with 12 points, and teammate Chelsea Stewart made seven.
The Kaplan Lady Pirates almost pulled off the upset on the road Thursday night.
Kaplan dropped a 48-45 first-round game to King Charter out of New Orleans.
The game was tied 38-38 in the fourth period, and then King Charter went on a run in the final three minutes to secure the win.
Alyia Broussard led Kaplan with 19 points. She made her first three-pointer of the game as time expired in the game. Jenna Romero finished with 12 points, and Lexi Broussard had seven points for KHS.
