Gueydan airs it out this summer
GUEYDAN - The Gueydan Bears at a 7-on-7 passing tournament at St. Thomas More last week? Were they there to watch and see what a passing game looks like?
They were there to participate against other teams who love to pass the football.
“Our guys performed competitively, “ said GHS head coach Roderick Moy. “I am so glad we went.”
When is the last time you saw a Bears’ team throw the football every play? Never.
In the two day 7-on-7 tournament, teams could only throw the football.
Last week was the Christening of new GHS quarterback Blaire Broussard. When Moy arrived, he put the word out that he was looking for a quarterback who did not mind carrying the weight of the team on his shoulders.
Blaire Broussard stepped up and approached Moy about the position. He explained to Moy he wanted to give it a try.
“He was willing,” said Moy.
Last week, Broussard was thrown in the fire and handled himself well,” said Moy.
He said the biggest challenge Broussard had was reading defensives but that comes with experience.
“He faced a lot of different situations,” Moy added. No two teams did the same thing on defense. He was able to see different reads.”
The Bears lost to Oakdale by one point, Lafayette High JV by two points and they also lost to North Vermilion.
Then, when the tournament began, Gueydan was eliminated by Erath High.
