Abbeville Wildcats get needed road victory
LAFAYETTE — The Abbeville Wildcats took care of business on the road by beating the David Thibodaux Bulldogs 64-56 in District 8-3A action.
Heading into the game, the Wildcats, Patterson and David Thibodaux were all in a three-way tie for first place at 5-1.
With the win, Abbeville hangs on to the district lead at 6-1 and 18-6 overall.
Abbeville had three players score in double digits.
Tyrese Sam, who came into the game averaging 14 a game, turned in a top-notch performance. The senior scored 22 points to lead AHS. He nailed three out of five 3-pointers and was an impressive five out of six at the charity stripe.
Jurvonta Decuire had 21 points for AHS, and he also made four three-pointers. Walter Baudoin scored 12.
The other scorers for Abbeville were Clavern Adams (5 points) and Tarrius Campbell (4 points).
The Abbeville Lady Wildcats got off to a slow start against David Thibodaux and could not recover.
AHS had 11 points in the first half, but only scored 25 in the second half.
The Lady Bulldogs scored 21 in the second period and led 27-11 at halftime.
AHS freshman Chelsea Stewart, who finished with 16, only scored four in the first half, and she made 12 in the second half.
Janie Istre scored 11, and Keoina Callier chipped in with five.
