Senator Jonathan Perry receives multiple awards

District 26 State Senator Jonathan Perry is the recipient of three prestigious awards lauding his accomplishments and recognizing his support of Louisiana’s families, businesses and public safety. The Louisiana Family Forum, the Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance, and the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association all chose to honor Senator Perry with an annual recognition.
Earlier this month, Senator Perry was commended for his support of Louisiana families. The Louisiana Family Forum named Senator Perry as a 2017 Outstanding Family Advocate. The award recognizes Senator Perry’s 100% rating for his votes on issues important to the organization. Senator Perry and other legislative award recipients were honored at the Louisiana Family Forum’s 18th Annual Legislative Awards Gala.
“Representing the families of Acadiana while holding on to strong Christian and family values will continue to be a focus in the senate for me,” said Senator Perry.
The Southwest Louisiana Economic Development honored Senator Perry at its 12th Annual LegisGator Awards Luncheon in September. Chosen as a 2017 LegisGator Business Champion, Senator Perry was lauded for his commitment to the pro-business agenda of the Chamber SWLA and his support of business initiatives in the legislature.
“As I have continuously said since being elected to the legislature, it has been and will continue to be my goal to do all that I can as a State Senator to fight for not only the new and large companies coming into Louisiana but also I will not forget the small businesses that have been here for thirty, forty and fifty years,” said Senator Perry. “Those deserve the same attention as the new comers.”
Senator Perry also earned an A+ grade from the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association (LSA) for his work during the 2017 legislative session, earning a score of 100% for his votes on legislation important to the organization. The award recognizes legislators for supporting Louisiana sheriffs and looking out for the best interests of citizens and their safety.
“As a former law enforcement officer, I feel I have a special insight when it comes to issues that are supported by and opposed by the Sheriff’s Association, I have been in their shoes,” added Senator Perry.
Senator Perry has served the people of Senate District 26 in Louisiana Senate since being elected in 2011. He is currently the Chairman of the Select Committee on Veterans Affairs, the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Judiciary C Committee, and a member of the Local and Municipal Affairs and Commerce, Consumer Protection, and International Affairs Committees.
“I am humble and proud to receive these awards and recognition. I feel it shows how I represent the great people of Acadia, Lafayette, St. Landry and Vermilion Parish,” stated Senator Perry.

69th Cattle Festival announces Queen

69th Louisiana Cattle Festival Queen - The Louisiana Cattle Festival Pageants were held on Sept. 9, 2017 at Abbeville High School.
The young ladies from around the state competed in interview and on-stage modeling vying for the title of the 69th Miss Louisiana Cattle Festival Queen. Gabrielle Guilbeau of Lafayette captured the title as the 69th Miss to reign over the 2017 Louisiana Cattle Festival that will be held Oct. 13 through October 15. Gabrielle is the 18-year-old daughter of Clyde and Karen Guilbeau. She is currently attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, majoring in Early Childhood Education.
Following the festival, Gabrielle will have the opportunity to travel the state representing and promoting the festival and the Cattle Industry. In January she will have the honor of representing the City of Abbeville and Louisiana Cattle Festival at the Mystic Krewe's Mardi Gras Ball in Washington, D.C. Gabrielle would like to invite everyone to join her at this year Festival for lots of fun and great music.

Mary Jane Richard Neveaux

ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at an 11:00 AM on Monday, October 2, 2017 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Mary Jane Richard Neveaux, 84, who died Friday, September 29, 2017 at her residence. She will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with ­­­­­­Rev. Louis Richard officiating the services. Pallbearers will be John Fisher, Keith Sellers, Jed Reaux, Chris Fisher, Hayden Neveaux and Seth Rosso. Honorary pallbearers include D.J. Meche, Easton Reaux and Owens Fisher.
Mary Jane is survived by her daughters, Brenda Fisher and her husband John, and Tina Sellers and her husband Keith; son, Bobby Neveaux; four grandchildren, Hayden Neveaux, Chris Fisher, Katie Reaux and Natalee Rosso; four great-grandchildren, D.J. Meche, Easton Reaux, Owens Fisher and Colton Fisher; and sisters, Laura Romero and Beverly Levy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curley Neveaux; parents, Hypolite and Editha Richard; sisters, Dorothy Neveaux and Maudry Richard; and brothers, Ivan Richard, Curley Richard and Emery Richard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Monday, October 2, 2017 from 8:00 AM until 10:45 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to N.S.I. Hospice, 1025 Camellia Blvd. #201, Lafayette, LA 70508.
A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Neveaux family to N.S.I. Hospice, nurses Joy Shullaw and Lacy Carrigee; and caretaker Denise Curry. Also to the families and friends who visited often and brought smiles to her face.

Lillie Bell

ABBEVILLE – Funeral services for Lillie Bell is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 30, 2017 in the chapel of Kinchen Funeral Home – 218 N. St. Valerie Street – Abbeville, LA with burial in Society Cemetery on Society Street. Bishop Alvin Shelvin will officiate the service.
Lillie Bell was born to Mary Cade Bell & Daniel Bell on January 1, 1932. She was called home to be with our Lord on September 18, 2017.
Lillie lived a modest life, working most of her years as a housekeeper in the home care service field, and as a worker in a potato factory. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as she could often be found in her favorite chair sipping a nice hot cup of coffee. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, and bringing lots of wisdom, love, and laughs to all that knew her.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memory one sister, Francis Stewart; three sons, Quincy Bell (Lynette), Jimmie Bell (Melanie), Robert Walker (Shantel), and one daughter, MaryAnn Bell (Leroy); sixteen grandchildren, Lillie C., Alfredo, and Crystal Bell, of which she raised as her own; Jerrica Alexis, Kendra, Katara(Jon), and Kendrick Matthews (Liz), Akeema Wiltz, Brittany, Shawn, Charmaine, Robert, Ashlee, David, and Donovan Jones as well as Terrence Walker;seven great-grandchildren, Layla Peters, Loveless Jr. and Akeelah Robinson, Zah’Kereya , Na’Kayren, Da’Jeremyon, and Alexis Bell; eight nieces and nephews, Christopher, Geraldine, and Barbara Bell, Ruby Lee and Donald Ray Kimble, Raymond and James Moore, and Sandra Caine, and a special friend whom she loved dearly, Elivina “Pinky” Robinson.
Lillie, known as “Weedy” to her family, is proceeded in death by her parents: Mary Cade Bell & Daniel Bell; four sisters, Cinderella and Mittie Bell, Lily Hall, and Lili Francis; her brother, Robert Bell; two nieces, Elizabeth Stewart and Lynette Bell; her nephew, Jimmie Moore, who was raised as a brother; and a very special friend who is rejoicing in heaven, Lawrence “Kalum” Walker.
Visitation is scheduled at Kinchen Funeral Home Saturday, September, 30, 2017 from 8:00 A.M. until time of service.

Wilda Faulk Hebert

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 9:00 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville; honoring the life of Wilda Faulk Hebert, 95, who died Thursday, September 28, 2017 at her home in Meaux.
A private burial will be held at a later date. Wilda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She loved to cook for her extended family and gathered them on Sundays for a family meal and visit. She liked nothing better than to be surrounded by her family; which she did until her death.
She is survived by her daughter Brenda Suire and her husband Sanford Suire of Abbeville; and Daughter Delores Harrington of Meaux; grandson Zachary Hebert and Jimmy Harrington, his wife Kim and their daughter Kristyn of Meaux. Also survived by grand daughters Kari Harrington of Meaux and her companion Gene Monteaux and Leslye Broussard of Milton. She also leaves to cherish her memory great grandsons, Caleb Broussard of Milton and Seth Broussard, his wife Christine and their children, Dax and Colton, whom she saw every day and who were the joy of her life. She is also survived by her step grand daughter, Jamie Hamilton and husband Trey of Montevallo, Alabama; step grand sons, Mark Suire of Shreveport and Sy Suire and his wife Efrosini and their son Stone of North Grafton, Massachusetts. Wilda is also survived by her loving 98-year-old sister, Rose Herpin and her daughter-in-law Paula Durke Hebert.
Wilda was preceded in death by her husband, Doris “Beb” Hebert; a son, Michael Brent Hebert; her parents Alexie Faulk and the former Pamela Colomb; her sister Hilda Faulk and her brothers Walter and Whitney Faulk.
The family would like to extend special thanks to her care takers Dianna Broussard, Janie Meche, and Roxanne Cormier and her nephew Jeffery Faulk, who visited often and brought smiles to her face.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Louisiana Funeral Services and Crematory of Broussard, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana.

KAPLAN — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Ules "Uncle Buddy" LeMaire, 80, who died on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital of Lafayette. He will be laid to rest at St. Anne Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services.
He is survived by his godchildren, Johnny Cormier and his wife, Cheryl of Groves, TX, Carol Sue and her husband, Gordon Perry of Breaux Bridge, Amanda Miller and her fiance' Shawn Nolan of Groves, TX, and Sarah and her husband, Jimmy Brown of Cankton; two sisters, Marie Miller of Groves, TX and Linda and her husband, Kaywood Broussard of Erath; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eulgare LeMaire and the former Lillian Perry; one sister, Emalie Cormier; one brother, Wilmer LeMaire; one godchild, Veronica Breaux; and two brothers-in-law, Darrell Miller and J.B. Cormier.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM; Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church.

Vermilion Catholic Homecoming Court announced

The Court for Vermilion Catholic’s 50th Homecoming: Queen: Kylie White; Court: Gabby Clark, Averi Frith, Hailey Gunter, Gabby Landry, Victoria Sterling, Ainsley Summers, Hannah Trahan and Lily Veazey. In honor of the 50th anniversary, a reception will be held at the Ministries Building following the Homecoming Mass on Friday morning at 7:30 a.m. Alumni are invited to join in all of the homecoming activities, including the bonfire Thursday at 8 p.m. at the practice field andthe parade at 3 p.m. in downtown Abbeville. Alumni cheerleaders and dance team members will perform during halftime and the third quarter. Also making an appearance at the football game will be members of the 1967 football team. Vermilion Catholic’s first football team went undefeated until the state semi-final game.
