Missing children found safe

Due to the possibility of heavy rains anticipated because of tropical storm Cindy, Kaplan Mayor Kirk Champagne has cancelled the Kaplan City Council meeting scheduled for tonight. The meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, June 27th at 6 p.m.

This is a generator that sits on top of a diesel storage tank. On the side of the generator are pumps that will pump water away from Erath High and Erath Middle School.

Three men wanted by Abbeville Police in connection to a shooting that occurred in April are now in custody.
Mortimer Cottrell Jr., 27, Josiah Cottrell, 20, and Timothy Cottrell, 17, have each been booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center on attempted second-degree murder chargers. The bond for those charges has been set at $500,000 for each man.
U.S. Marshall’s and deputies with the Mobile Sheriff’s Office arrested the three without incident in Mobile, Ala.
The search for a 12-year-old Gueydan boy Garrick Neil Jr. who drowned Sunday in the Calcasieu River off La. 26 just west of Oberlin has ended. h The boy's body was found at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Allen Parish Sheriff Doug Hebert III said Monday dive and search teams from surrounding parishes have been using sonar equipment, cadaver dogs and other resources to search the swift river since the boy was last seen around 3:30 p.m. last Sunday . They also reported that the river was about nine feet above normal, making it difficult for even a strong swimmer to get across.
