Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Rescue Unit rescue unit spent 48 hours searching flooded areas

After landfall, the Sheriff’s Office began high water assessments throughout the parish which is still ongoing through Monday. For 48 hours nonstop, they were in search and rescue mode looking for opportunities to rescue or help anyone in need.
They made two rescues, one in Intracoastal City, and another of St. Elmo road. They also rescued a heard of goats, that was about to drown.

City workers secured a cracked utility pole to a truck on the La. Hwy. 14 Bypass to keep the pole upright Monday morning. Workers had the base of the pole secured without the truck by Monday afternoon.

Abbeville able to dodge major damage, flooding from Barry

Monday morning in Abbeville looked normal, with people going about the start of the week.
Thankfully for people in the city, the events of the weekend didn’t leave many routines flipped upside down.
Hurricane/Tropical Storm Barry made landfall on Saturday. The effects of this storm spared the city of any major flooding and wind damage.

The east side of Vermilion Parish got the worst of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Barry.
While Abbeville, Maurice, Gueydan, and Kaplan were spared flooding, that can not be said about the communities of Henry, Intracoastal City, Delcambre and south of Erath.
Those four areas were underwater early Sunday morning due to three to six-foot storm surge caused by Barry.

INSURANCE INFORMATION FOR Barry’s AFTERMATH

The office of Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon offered this guide for people affected by tropical weather:
--Minimize your losses and document the damage. Take photos of any damage and whatever reasonable repairs are needed.
--Keep your receipts. If you are unable to stay in your home due to damage from a storm, keep your receipts for lodging, food and essentials. Your policy may cover a portion of the costs while you are temporarily relocated.
