Two now running for Erath Chief of Police

Qualifying for the March 25 election began Wednesday morning and a race for one office in the parish has materialized as a result.

Two people qualified for Chief of Police in Erath. Bart Boullion signed up to run as a Republican. Anna LaPointe, listed as a Democrat, also qualified.

The race is to fill the unexpired term of late Chief Gerald Hebert, who passed away last September. The Erath Board of Aldermen assigned LaPointe to serve as chief following Hebert’s death.

Chic-A-la-Pie krewe members plan for ball

Mardi Gras committee members of the Kaplan Krewe Chic-A-la-Pie have been hard at work planning for the 2017 Ball.

Many people have already spent numerous hours behind the scenes in the planning and development process to ensure that the 2017 celebration will be fun-filled and entertaining.

Chic-A-la-Pie member volunteers plan and execute the entire ball, including selection and development of the theme, costume design, script writing, music selection and choreography, marketing, decorating, ticket sales, logistics and production.

Crowley businessman has long been involved in Louisiana politics

CROWLEY - Mike Francis was sworn in by Judge John Trahan as District 4 Public Service Commissioner on Tuesday during a ceremony at the Acadia Parish Courthouse.

Francis, a Republican, is the founder of Francis Drilling Fluids, one of the oldest drilling fluid company’s on the Gulf Coast. Francis Drilling Fluids currently has locations in Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and Wyoming. The company’s headquarters is located in Crowley.

Continuing to honor service

The Louisiana Military Hall of Fame and Museum opened its doors in Abbeville more than six years ago with the goal of honoring those from the state who have served this country.

As the state’s budget has continued to tighten during the last year, local efforts are being made to ensure that the doors to the museum remain open.
