UL Lafayette announces COVID spring guidelines

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette has issued its COVID-19 health and safety protocols for the Spring 2022 semester.
Classes begin Wednesday, Jan. 12.
In a message to students and faculty and staff members on Thursday, the University announced:
• Some in-person courses may be delivered remotely from Wednesday, Jan. 12, through Friday, Jan. 28. Faculty members will notify students and post information in Moodle if there is a change in course delivery method.

Omicron cases continue to dominate spread in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE — The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) estimates the proportion of Omicron cases in our state has increased from 88.5% to 90.2% for the week ending January 1.*
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates the proportion of Omicron in HHS Region 6 (which includes Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas) is 98.2%. Furthermore, 63 of Louisiana’s 64 parishes (98.4%) are at the 2 highest levels of community transmission; one remains unclassified due to low test volume. This is an increase from last week's 95%.

Vermilion Parish School System keeping eye on COVID

With the increase of COVID over the last two weeks, Vermilion Parish school systems took a step back to see if they needed to make any changes to their COVID policies.
Superintendent Tommy Byler informed students and parents this past weekend that there would be no school this past Monday, but teachers and staff had to report.
Catholic schools in the parish also did not have school on Monday.
After meeting with teachers, Byler did not make any drastic changes to the COVID policies.
