Narcotics Task Force agents arrest two juveniles in Abbeville

According to PIO and Narcotics Task Force Commander Drew David, the Vermilion Municipal and Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force made the following arrests for narcotics related offenses within the parish.
On Jan. 19, agents with the narcotics task force along with officers with the Abbeville Police Department executed a search warrant at 1101 Greene Street in Abbeville. Upon a search of the residence agents located a large amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a 9mm pistol, an AK 47, crack cocaine and a large amount of US Currency.

36 years later, Stelly is school board president again

Boy, have things changed since Dale Stelly was the president of the Vermilion Parish School Board.
In 1981, he became the second-youngest school board member ever elected in Lousiana. He was only 26 years old.
In 1985, at the young age of 30, he was named the School Board president.
What was happening that year?
•Pecan Island, Meaux, Maurice, Indian Bayou and Henry still had high schools in their communities.
•Ronald Reagan was the United States president, and interest rates for a home loan were 10.75 percent.

City officials are looking for way to make sure that trash is not scattered by road when a tenant moves out of a rental property.

Abbeville looks to clean up issue with trash left at some rental properties

Abbeville officials do not believe that every rental property in the city is going to end up with a pile of trash being left by the street when tenants move out.
However, members of the Abbeville City Council have seen and heard of enough situations where renters have haphazardly left piles of trash by the road, with the property owner not properly taking care of the situation.

Lafayette woman arrested in Abbeville on multiple narcotics offenses

Narcotics located by an employee at a motel in Abbeville resulted in the arrest of a Lafayette women.
On Jan. 23, 2021, at approximately 11 a.m., officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to the Sunbelt Lodge on Veterans Memorial Drive in reference to staff finding narcotics in one of the rooms after one of the tenants of the room had left after checking out.

Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program underway

The Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program will award scholarships providing assistance to worthy Louisiana students in furthering their education and training with resources made available through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary membership Program.
According to Program Chair, St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne, “This Scholarship Program is a meaningful expression of the Program’s respect for education. It demonstrates our confidence in Louisiana’s youth...our future leaders.”
