Sales tax collection down $100,000 in July in Vermilion Parish
Overall, sales tax collections dipped $100,000 from a year ago.
Most of the decrease in collections was from the school board, police jury and sheriff’s office.
According to the July 2017 sales tax report, the “Big Three” collected four percent less than they did a year ago.
That four percent is about a combined $91,000 less.
The school board collected $511,000 in July or $30,000 less than a year ago. The police jury collected $34,000 less for a total of $766,000. The Sheriff’s Office collected $27,000 less for a total of $383,000.
The municipalities had a variety of sales tax collections.
The city of Abbeville had a 5 percent decrease or $14,000 less. The city collected $266,000 in July.
The town of Erath remained the same at $21,800 in collections.
The town of Gueydan saw a dip in collections of 12 percent. The community collected $11,600 or $3,000 less than a year ago.
The town of Kaplan and a 15 percent increase. It is the biggest increase in sales tax in Kaplan in a while. The town collected $54,000 or about $7,000 more.
The Vermilion Parish Tourist Commission had a 13 percent increase . More people stayed in hotels in Vermilion Parish in July, which helped increase revenue for the tourism department.
In Delcambre, sales tax collection was up eight percent or about $1,000.
The Village of Maurice is up 5 percent for a collection total of $41,600.
While the Kaplan Hospital Service District had a 7 percent increase or about a $6,000 increase. The district collected $86,600.
The Abbeville Hospital District 2 saw a downturn in collection. The district collected $14,000 less from a year ago. The district collected $196,200.
