Sherry Howell to be sworn in as Maurice Alderwoman on Wednesday

MAURICE — The Village of Maurice Board of Aldermen will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, with a change of venue.
The meeting will be held at St. Joseph Church Hall in Maurice. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Among the items of business highlighting the meeting will be the swearing-in of Sherry Howell as an alderwomen. She will be filling the seat of her late husband, Lynn Howell, who passed away in January.
“Please join us in welcoming her to the council and wishing her well in fulfilling the duties of Alderwoman,” Maurice Mayor Wayne Theriot said.

Commissioner Donelon Extends Protections for Policyholders Impacted by August Flooding

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon is announcing the issuance of an Emergency Rule which extends protections for policyholders impacted by the August flooding. The action taken by Commissioner Donelon was authorized by Governor John Bel Edwards’ Executive Order 2017-04 granting the Commissioner temporary authority to suspend certain regulatory provisions of the insurance code.

Abbeville Council discusses salary, job description for parks director

The City of Abbeville is working to finalize an agreement that will outsource management of youth recreation in the city to Quality Sports Authority (QSA).
For the past six years, the city has had a director of the Parks and Recreation Department oversee the entire operation of sports seasons as well as the city’s 11 parks.
Once officially approved, the agreement with QSA will take care of the recreation aspect, leaving the department director’s former two-pronged job title with one focus, parks.

Abbeville Police involved in car chase in city, parish

A hot pursuit by the Abbeville Police Department resulted in an arrest of an Abbeville man wanted for attempted second degree murder.
On Tuesday, a police officer with the Abbeville Police Department clocked a vehicle speeding on West Summers Drive in Abbeville.
The officer proceeded to attempt to stop the vehicle which was described as a 2003 Infinity Sedan, silver in color.
The suspect vehicle fled away leading to a vehicle pursuit.
The vehicle led officers through Abbeville where the suspect’s vehicle struck a Abbeville Fire Truck and sped away.
