Stephen Lotief

Lotief named new head football coach at Breaux Bridge

It did not take Stephen Lotief long to find another head football coaching job.
On Tuesday, Breaux Bridge High School announced that Lotief would be the new head football coach.
He replaces Chad Pourchiau, who stepped down as the football coach after seven years at the school.
Breaux Bridge has had success for two of the last three years. In 2018, the Tigers finished the regular season with a 7-3 record. In 2019, the Tigers went 10-2.
This past football season, Breaux Bridge went 3-5.

Travis Blaize

Vermilion Catholic's Travis Blaize named football coach at Westminster

Vermilion Catholic is losing its offensive coordinator to another high school.
Travis Blaize, the 31-year-old son of former VC head coach Ossie Blaize, was named the new head football coach at Westminster Christian Academy near Opelousas.
This will be his first head football coaching job. He has been the offensive coordinator at VC for three years and was also an assistant coach at Abbeville High and Comeaux High School before VC.

Kaplan unable to beat Crowley for piece of district lead

The Kaplan Pirates had a chance to move into a two-way tie for first place in the district with a win over Crowley on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, the Pirates gave up one run in the bottom of the sixth frame en route to a 5-4 loss to Crowley.
The Pirates fall to 10-12 overall and are now 3-2 in the district. Crowley (13-10) is 5-0. Kaplan remains at No. 22 in the Class 3A power rankings. Crowley is No. 17.

Grant Campbell pitched Kaplan to a 13-2 victory against St. Martinville. He pitched six innings and struck out nine.

Kaplan Pirates still in hunt for district title with season winding down

The Kaplan Pirates had no trouble on offense, winning big over Westgate 10-2 on Saturday.
The win improved Kaplan to 3-1 in district and 10-11 overall.
KHS has seven games left to play.
On Tuesday on the road, the Kaplan Pirates played Crowley. It was a big game because Kaplan is 3-1 in the district, and Crowley was 4-0.
A win by Kaplan could put the Pirates in a two-way tie for first with Crowley.

Pitching Battle: Central Catholic, Kaplan pitchers combine to strike out 29 batters

Central Catholic was just a little better than the Class 3A Kaplan Lady Pirates on Monday.
Central Catholic shut down Kaplan’s bats en route to a 2-0 non-district win.
Kaplan and Central Catholic combined for four hits.
The two pitchers also combined to strike out 29 batters.
Central Catholic batters struck out 15 times, and Kaplan’s batters struck out 14.
Kaplan falls to 21-4 overall and falls to No. 2 in the latest Class 3A power rankings. Grant (16-4) is at No. 1.
Pitcher Carina Chargois started the game for Kaplan and recorded 19 outs.
