The North Vermilion Youth Association 9-10 year old All-Stars captured the Mustang Super Region Tournament early Friday morning in Abbeville. NV beat SLYSI of Lafayette 17-14 . The game began at 9 p.m. on Thursday and ended Friday, just after midnight. The all-stars will be traveling to Deer Park, Texas on July 25 to compete in the PONY Zone tournament. Super Region Champions: North Vermilion Gets It Done

Good things come to those who wait.
The 10-year-old North Vermilion All-Stars have waited three years for this to happen.
Early Friday morning, at around 12:02 a.m., the North Vermilion All-Stars were celebrating their 17-14 victory over SLYSI of Lafayette. The game began Thursday at about 9 p.m. and ended just after midnight.
With the win, they have qualified to play in Deer Park, Texas for the next round. The tournament begins on July 25.
Last year, with most of the same boys, the club finished third in the same tourney.

Jax Harrington may be the first Erath High offensive linemen to commit to a Division I university.

Erath's Harrington commits to play for Cajuns

A football player, the size of Jax Harrington, does not come around Vermilion Parish too often.
Harrington is 6-foot-5 and weighs 290 pounds, and he plays offensive tackle for Erath High School.
Earlier in the week, Harrington verbally committed to play for the UL Ragin Cajuns, via Twitter. He selected UL after receiving 13 other scholarship offers, including from Kansas, Tulsa, Southern Miss., La Tech, and Air Force.

The Gueydan Bears will be working on their passing game this week at STM.

Four parish teams competing in 7-on-7 tournament at St. Thomas More

Four schools from Vermilion Parish will be competing in Quint Slant’s 7-on-7 tournament at St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette.
The four teams are Vermilion Catholic, Gueydan, North Vermilion and Delcambre High.
The small schools play Wednesday, and the larger schools Class 4 and Class 5A schools play on Thursday.
There will be no running plays, just passing plays.
Gueydan, a Class A school, has the first game on Wednesday against Class 2A Delcambre Panthers. It begins at 4 and will only last 20 minutes.

Abbeville track/field records completed

No one ever put it down on paper, until this track season at Abbeville High School.
Abbeville High graduate and head track coach Ivy Landry began researching track and field records for Abbeville High School.
Finally, with a combination of former track coaches, Ossie Blaize, Erik Lege, Brent Indest, John Prestridge and current track coach, Ivy Landry, a record book was created. Also, helping were Brandon Mitchell, Chad Brown and Russell Betts.
The AHS records go as a far back as 1969 to as recent as 2018.

Trahan moving closer to Kaplan

Former Kaplan High softball pitcher Abby Trahan is moving closer to home after spending two years far away from Vermilion Parish.
Trahan, who was a pitcher at St. Francis University in Pennsylvania, will transfer to Southern Miss. She announced the move via social media on Friday. She will have two years left to play for Southern Miss.
“My family and I are both very excited for me to start my junior year with Southern Miss,” said Trahan on Monday. “I am excited to start working with the team and working my hardest to take them to a championship like I did at St. Francis.”
