Abbeville High's Lainey Trahan named Player of the Week

Abbeville High School senior Lainey Trahan set the state record for the heaviest bench press ever for a Louisiana High School female with a press of 305-pounds at the Calvary Invitational in Shreveport over the weekend. She also won the best lifter award as Abbeville Lady Wildcats won the meet. Because of her great effort, she was named this week’s Gulf Coast Bank’s Player of the Week. Handing her a shirt is Murphy Guilbeaux of Gulf Coast Bank.

Season going well for AHS Wildcats

KAPLAN - Things are going well for the Abbeville Wildcats this season.
Under the legendary head coach Berwick Hamilton, the Wildcats have a 14-5 overall record and are 2-0 in district. The Wildcats have pretty much sewed up a home game in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, with 10 games remaining on their schedule.
Abbeville is unofficially ranked at No. 5 in the Class 3A power point rankings, and the top 16 earn a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Landing on the Louisiana Sports Writers Class 3A All State Team has happened in the past for Kaplan High School and Erath High School. But the 2018 Class 3A All-State Team will go down as something special for Erath High.
This year the school had two players make the Class 3A All-State First Team. In years past if EHS got one all-stater, the school is doing great, but to get two from a team that finished the regular season 4-7 is special.
