During the month of April, 2018 the following defendants were convicted or pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 15th Judicial District Court, Parishes of Lafayette, Acadia and Vermilion:

Broussard honored as 4-H Hall of Famer

Vermilion Parish native among 12 inducted

MANSURA — Twelve new members of the Louisiana 4-H Hall of Fame were recognized on April 28 for their years of dedication to youth in the state 4-H program.
Mark Tassin, LSU AgCenter associate vice president and 4-H program leader, said 4-H is able to carry out its mission because of the efforts of parents, volunteers and LSU AgCenter employees. As a result, tens of thousands of youths have been affected. “We probably could be recognizing thousands of people,” he said.
So far, the Hall of Fame includes 220 people since it was started in 2008, Tassin said.
Tassin also announced he will be retiring this summer and will be replaced by Toby Lepley. .
AgCenter 4-H youth development director Janet Fox said the honorees were grateful for the chance to work with students. “We’re thanking these inductees, but they are thanking us for the opportunity. This group definitely exhibits excellence,” she said.
Upon receiving her award, honoree Gwen Broussard, of Vermilion Parish, gave thanks for her 4-H opportunity. “Volunteering has truly made my life complete,” she said.
Deborah Gissel, of Jefferson Parish, said she became a teacher and a 4-H volunteer because of her time in 4-H as a girl. “I feel like I should be giving an award to the 4-H Club,” she said.
Kathy Landry, of St. Mary Parish, said she has fond memories of 4-H. “I can’t begin to tell you how many amazing youths I had the opportunity to work with,” she said.
Sharon Nabours, of Calcasieu Parish, said her granddaughter is about to start 4-H. “I’m ready to start another round and get involved,” she said.
Blue Rolfes, of Lafayette Parish, was recognized for her work in television, telling the public about 4-H. “It’s been my job to tell the public about the amazing, incredible job all of you do,” she said.
Rosanne Williams, widow of honoree David Williams, said her husband loved his career with 4-H. “David always considered it an honor and a privilege to work with the children. He considered it a great honor to work with the children,” she said.

Inductees honored Saturday were:

Gwen Broussard, of Vermilion Parish, has been a 4-H volunteer for 18 years. She is the 4-H Club organizational leader at three schools. She serves on the livestock advisory board and she is the beef project leader. She is developing a five-year plan to ensure funds are available to continue to run the parish 4-H program. She has won a state adult volunteer leader award, and she was honored at a Vermilion Parish 4-H Achievement Day.

Andrea Alday, of St. Charles Parish. She has served 4-H for more than 20 years as leader of the St. Charles Parish Junior Leader Club and judge for several parish contests. She has been active in the Louisiana 4-H Volunteer Leader Association, and she established the 4-H Cloverbud Community Club. She continues to actively recruit others to volunteer for 4-H.

Blue Rolfes, of Lafayette Parish, helped 4-H as a newscaster for KLFY-TV. She and her news team at the station received the Epsilon Sigma Phi Friend of Extension Award, and she helped start a career readiness program called KLFYU Teen Reporter, partnering with 4-H to recruit participants. She has received numerous community and professional awards because of her contributions to 4-H.

David Williams, of Livingston Parish, became a faculty member for 4-H youth development, and he used clinics, workshops and field days to train 4-H and FFA members. He was a volunteer at the state level in livestock, leadership and outdoor skills. He received the Louisiana Association of Extension 4-H Agents Distinguished Service Award and Meritorious Service Award and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service Program Excellence Award.

Brenda Foster McCoy, of Bienville Parish, has led the 4-H Club at Castor High School for more than 20 years. She has been an officer in the Louisiana 4-H Volunteer Leaders Association. She created a livestock club that grew to 75 members and involved her clubs in the Claiborne Electric Energy Day for many years. She has received several awards, including Outstanding Club Leader, Outstanding Parish Livestock Leader and Outstanding Parish Club.

Deborah Gissel, of Jefferson Parish, has been involved in 4-H for 48 years as a member and leader. Her clubs have promoted a variety of projects, including a schoolwide recycling program, field trips to a recycling plant and landfill, collecting stuffed toys for the needy, bundling Christmas trees for wetlands, and obtaining and distributing more than 35,000 cypress and oak seedlings. Her awards have included Good Provider Awards, appreciation awards and outstanding service awards.

Elizabeth Jordan, of Caddo Parish, has been a dedicated volunteer for 36 years. She made 4-H available to home-schooled students and others in schools without 4-H Clubs. She serves on the Caddo Parish Advisory Leadership Council, Caddo Parish Fair Board of Directors and the Caddo Parish 4-H Foundation. Her clubs sponsored the first Clover 5K run.

Gayla Crum, of Concordia Parish, was a club leader for the past 25 years. She has led the junior and high school clubs in the parish. She helped start the first 4-H garden program in the parish and a shooting sports program, serving as instructor for six years. She has been a member of the parish 4-H advisory board for 18 years and was an officer of the parish foundation for 13 years.

Kathy Landry, of St. Mary Parish, worked as a 4-H agent and later as a volunteer leader at Centerville High School with one of the largest clubs in the parish. She has been a volunteer with the state Food and Fitness Board and the 4-H Healthy Living program. She has chaperoned several events, including summer camp, 4-H University and Food and Fitness Camp. She has been honored with several leadership awards.

Leonard Eisenstein, of St. Martin Parish, was a school club leader in St. Martinville for 23 years. After his retirement in 1990, he continued as a project leader in the sheep project. He is an instructor in 4-H shooting sports and is certified in archery, air pistol and hunting. He coedited a cookbook used by 4-H and the Boy Scouts. He has been a Good Provider contest winner and a Louisiana winner of the R.J. Reynolds Salute to Excellence Award. He made the frame for a 4-H flag that was flown into space in 1985 and is displayed at the Kellogg Hall of the National 4-H Conference Center.

Mary Ann Sagrera, of Acadia Parish, started as a youth development agent in Tangipahoa Parish then moved to Acadia Parish in 1959, working 36 years as an AgCenter home economist. She worked with 4-H Clubs that were recognized as the best 4-H program in the state. Club members dominated Short Course and state records contests. She started a student exchange program that brought Asian youth to Acadia Parish. Her awards include distinguished service awards, the National Association of County Agents team award and the First Mississippi Corporation Award. She continues to serve as a contest judge for sewing, fashion and cooking.

Sharon Nabours, of Calcasieu Parish, is a 4-H volunteer. She has served on the local advisory board and the Louisiana 4-H Foundation Board of Directors. She has volunteered as a chaperone at summer camp and 4-H Short Course, as a leader during Wild Woods Wandering camps and as a club organizational leader. She was sponsor of the Calcasieu Parish Environmental Club, and she has helped with livestock shows at the parish, district and state levels.

Erath Bobcats to face No 1. Sterlington

JT Langlinais would not be denied at the plate on Saturday, picking up four hits and leading the Erath Bobcats to a 19-7 win over West Feliciana.
The Bobcats won the best two-out-of-three series and will advance to the third round where they will travel to meet No. 1 Sterlington.
The first game of the best two-out-three series will be Friday at 6 p.m. The next games will be Saturday.
This will be the second year the Bobcats face a number one team in the quarterfinals. Last year Erath fell to No. 1 Brusly two games to one.
“I felt we played in game one and game three like we are capable of playing,” said EHS head coach Jeremy Picard. “We executed well early and put pressure on them when we needed. Timely hits throughout the weekend were key for us offensively.”
Langlinais singled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the fourth and doubled in the sixth.
West Feliciana scored four runs in the second inning, but Erath still managed to pull out the victory.
Erath got things moving in the second inning. Erath scored one run when Ross Allen singled.
In the bottom of the second inning, West Feliciana tied things up at four.
Erath took the lead for good with seven runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Langlinais singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, Charlet’s wild pitch allowed three runs to score for Erath.
Tuker Bourque laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run, and Luke Frederick doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.
Pitcher Shea Duplechain got the win for Erath. He lasted five and two-third innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out four.
Loker Gibbons took the loss for West Feliciana. He surrendered two runs on one hit over one and one-third innings, walking zero.
Bourque started the game for Erath as the pitcher. He lasted one and one-third innings, allowing three hits and four runs.
Erath totaled 19 hits. Langlinais, Frederick, Duplechain, Chandler LeBlanc, Matt Domingues, and Mason Granger all managed multiple hits for Erath.
Langlinais went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Erath in hits.
Chandler LeBlanc went 3-for-4 and knocked in two runs. Mason Granger was 2-for-3 and knocked in three runs. Shea Duplechain was 2-for-3 and knocked in two runs. Luke Frederick went 3-for-3 (2 RBI) with two doubles.
The Bobcats hit four doubles, with Luke Frederick hitting two of the double. Langlinais and Duplechain had the other two.
West Feliciana tallied ten hits on the day. Kent, Bennett Clement, and Wunstol each collected multiple hits for West Feliciana.

Joan Trahan, wife of Richard Trahan, recently celebrated her 80th birthday at the home of her daughter, Carolyn and her husband, Daren Sebek. Also in attendance were her two daughters and their spouses, Becky, and her husband Scott Egert and Sweetie, and her husband, Warren Spencer. Joan was surrounded by many grandchildren and numerous great - grandchildren. A wonderful breakfast buffet and birthday cake were enjoyed by all. Her three daughters will be taking Joan on a mother-daughter trip to Savannah, Georgia, this summer, as that was her birthday wish.

A delegation of eight members of the Confrerie d’ Abbeville traveled to Dumbea, New Caledonia to participate in the cooking of our sister city’s Giant Omelette Celebration on April 22. The group left from the Lafayette airport on April 17 for the long journey. They arrived in Dumbea on the April 19, after a connection in Auckland, New Zealand. There is a 16 hour time difference between Abbeville and Dumbea. The group stayed just under a week in Dumbea. They will make a three day stop in Fiji then a three day visit in New Zealand before arriving home on May 3. Confrerie members are encouraged to travel to one of the six other omelette celebrations throughout the year. In addition to Dumbea, omelette celebrations are held in Bessieres, France on Easter Monday; Frejus, France in September; Granby, Quebec in Canada in June.; Malmedy, Belgium in August and Pigue, Argentina in December. Abbeville’s Giant Omelette Celebration is held each November on the 1st full weekend. For more information visit www.giantomelette.org . Katie Henry - Toby Brasseaux announce engagement

Miss Katie Marie Henry and Mr. Toby James Brasseaux, both of Erath, are announcing their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
The wedding will take place on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the New Life Church in Abbeville.
Katie is the daughter of Randall and Rebecca White of Abbeville and Adam Henry.
She is a 2005 graduate of Erath High School and a 2008 graduate of Remington College.
Toby is the son of Sherry and Gary Brasseaux of Abbeville. He is employed as an operator with C&D Wireline of Broussard.

Jenna Daniels and James Godwin unite in marriage

Le Barn Rouge in Lafayette was the setting for the ceremony uniting Jenna Victoria Daniels and James Lynn Godwin in marriage on April 14, 2018.
Barbara Broussard officiated the nuptial.
The beautiful bride is the daughter of Donald and Glena Gaspard of Gueydan and Carley and Brenetta Daniels of Maurice. Her maternal grandparents are Glynn Gillentine (deceased) of Gueydan and Elizabeth Gillentine of Crowley. Her paternal grandparents were Homer and Delta Daniels of Gueydan.
The groom is the son of Jim and Carlene Godwin of Abbeville. His maternal grandparents were Rudolph and Nita Touchet of Abbeville. His paternal grandparents were Lurlene Riddick of Milton and Mack Godwin of DeKalb Texas.
The bride wore an ivory Galina Signature dress. It had a plunging neckline, scallop-edged beaded lace bodice that lead to a fitted flare trumpet skirt with layers of tulle ruffles. The back of the dress was a low button design that provided a flawless finish. She completed her wedding attire with a beautiful sheer veil trimmed with a beaded flowered headpiece.
She carried her blue and white rose bouquet with greenery. She went with tradition and had something old and borrowed which was her sister’s veil, something new, were her boots and something blue, her blue Sapphire ring.
The maid of honor was Jaycee Porter; friend of bride, and the matron of honor was Jacqueline Daniels Richard, sister of bride. Both wore champagne colored dresses of their choice. The bridesmaids were, Amanda Richard, friend of bride; Dawn Landry, friend of bride; Janise Townley, friend of bride and Shelby Domingue, friend of bride. They wore navy blue dresses of their choice.
The flower girl was Lily Disotell, a friend’s daughter. She wore a white lace dress. She carried a wooden bucket with roses.
The best man was P.J. Townley, friend of groom. Serving as groomsmen were David Godwin, brother of groom; Eric Frederick, nephew of groom; Ross Richard, brother-in-law of bride; Bryan Guillory, friend of groom and Kyle Harrington, friend of groom. The junior groomsmen were Drake Godwin, son of groom; Mason Godwin, son of groom, Lane Godwin nephew of groom and Karson Richard, nephew of bride.
The groom wore a straw cowboy hat, white button shirt, tan vest, blue jeans and cowboy boots. The groomsmen and junior groomsmen wore white button down chocolate vest, blue jeans and cowboy hats. The boutonnieres were duck calls that were made by the bride’s grandfather, (Glenn Gillentine) trimmed with baby’s breath. The ring bearers were Jaylen Godwin, son of bride and groom and Kase Richard, godchild of bride. The attire worn were white button down shirts, tan vests, blue jeans and cowboy boots.
The mother of the bride wore a beaded charcoal colored dress.
The mother of the groom wore a taupe beaded pant suit. The corsages for the mothers were white flowers with blue and silver ribbon accented with pearls.
Following the ceremony, the guests were delighted to see the beautifully decorated tables with white table cloths, navy blue laced burlap table runners, white and navy mason jars filled with flowers, wooden barrels and a lace back drop lined with lights.
The bride’s cake was a four tier western cake with flowers, made by ‘Sky’s The Limit Cakes’. The groom’s cake was a replica of a tan Yeti cooler topped with Michelob Ultra bottles to complete the look.
Terry Boudreaux served both cakes. Music was provided by Justin Cormier.
Abacus Catering served approximately 200 guests for the reception.
The couple’s destination for their honeymoon was a Frank Foster Cruise, and will reside in Erath upon their return.
