Elizabeth June Schexnayder Moss, affectionately known as "Liz" to her family and friends, passed away in the morning hours on Thursday, February 22, 2024 surrounded by her family. At her passing she was 79.
Liz was born January 25, 1945 to Odeonce and Marie Aline Desormeaux Schexnayder who were local sharecroppers around Vermilion Parish. Growing up she attended school and lived for a time in Erath, Delcambre, and Abbeville, Louisiana. She was the fourth child of 11 children. She seldom told stories of her childhood often saying those memories were better left unsaid. She did keep in touch with all of her siblings and found joy in talking and visiting with them.
After graduating from Abbeville High school in 1963 she married Clarence who enlisted in the US Navy. During this time Liz enjoyed living in Virginia Beach, Virginia and Vallejo, California. She told stories of traveling back and forth across the United States in a Volkswagen Beetle Bug. After returning to Erath, Louisiana to raise her family she worked at Erath Community Hospital and Gulf Coast Bank. Her greatest priority was raising her 3 daughters.
Liz enjoyed traveling to many places with family, friends, and small groups. Liz traveled to Alaska, Key West, Nova Scotia, Hawaii and many places in between.. Liz loved life and spending time with her friends. She was often helping them in some way, visiting with them, eating lunch at her favorite restaurants with them, and going to dinner parties at their homes. She belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Erath, a Pokeno group of many friends, and The Catholic Daughters. These special friends return their love by sending cards, cooking for her, calling her on the phone with encouraging words, and visiting her in her final months of life.
A compliment often said about her was in regards to her cooking. She was a great cook. Many of her dishes were known around town by friends. Her cooking was a treasure often enjoyed by many. She was often the cook, hostess, organizer, and entertainer of many parties at her daughter’s camp in Delcambre. Another treasure are her grandkids and her great-grand daughters. She enjoyed watching them grow and spending time with them under the oak trees in her beautiful yard and she enjoyed taking boat rides to the family camp on the Boston Canal with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband and best friend of 57 years, Clarence (Wooga) Moss; her children, Jennifer Domingues (David) of Erath, Catherine Maynard (Tim) of Baton Rouge, and Rebecca Meaux (Derek) of Abbeville; her grandchildren, Daniel Domingues (Camille), Seth Domingues (Summer), Owen Domingues, Matthew Maynard, Murphy Maynard, Myles Maynard, Drew Meaux, and Lily Meaux; her great granddaughters, Dawsyn and Ila Domingues; her siblings: Shirley Seagle, Ray Schexnayder, Alice LeBlanc, Linda Foster, David Schexnayder, Sheron Landry, Dale Schexnayder, and Myra Hebert.
Along with her parents, Liz was preceded in death by her brothers, Cliff (Theresa) Abshire and Jerry Abshire.
Her girls, as she called them, would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to their dad, Clarence, for his undying love and compassion while caring for their mom and their family. Also, a special thanks to her sister Shirley for showing an abundance of love and compassion to their mom. You both are loved and greatly appreciated. Last, thank you to LAMM Family Care Hospice and all the great nurses and aids that cared for her.
David Funeral Home of Erath is in charge of arrangements.
