Sheriff's Office names person thrown from car with gunshots; juvenile arrested for alleged crime
The name of the person thrown from a car with gunshots has been identified by the Sheriff’s Office and a person of interest has been arrested for the alleged crime.
According to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Public Information Officer, Eddie Langlinais, during the morning hours of Monday, June 28, 2021, Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a person thrown out of a vehicle off of Queen’s Ranch Road south of Abbeville.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the victim at this location suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body. The victim, identified as Jaylan Ben (B/M, DOB: 12/18/2002), succumbed to his injuries while being transported to a local hospital.
That same morning, deputies located and recovered the suspect vehicle near the intersection of 9th Street and South State Street in Abbeville.
Through further investigation, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Division obtained information and established a juvenile as a person of interest. The juvenile was taken into custody last night without incident on an arrest warrant for Second Degree Murder.
This incident is still an active homicide investigation. Updates may follow as information becomes available.
