Abbeville officials remind drivers that downtown will undergo changes, starting on December 14

North State Street and the square around the Courthouse will undergo a transformation starting on Dec. 14-15 for a month-long Complete Street Demonstration.
In an effort to enhance safety and promote alternative modes of transportation, the city is advising downtown residents and commuters to exercise caution and be prepared for significant changes as the Complete Streets Demonstration begins on Dec. 14 and continues through mid-January.

Abbeville Councilman suggests pay raise for mayor

During the recent Finance Committee meeting of the City of Abbeville, committee chairman Francis Touchet surprised everyone by proposing to increase the Mayor’s yearly salary to $90,000.
While Steve Moosa, the CPA from Darnell, Sikes and Fredericks, was reviewing the line items in next year’s city budget, Touchet voiced his opinion that the Mayor of Abbeville should be the highest-paid employee in the city.
Currently, Mayor Roslyn White earns $79,000 a year, while Abbeville Police Chief Mike Hardy makes $85,000 yearly.

Abbeville man on Bicycle Killed in Vermillion Parish Crash

ABBEVILLE – On December 10, 2023, shortly after 7 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I began investigating a serious injury crash involving a bicyclist on Louisiana Highway 82 near Louisiana Highway 690.
The crash ultimately claimed the life of 61-year-old Darrell Boudreaux of Abbeville.
The preliminary investigation revealed Boudreaux was eastbound on LA Hwy 82 while riding a bicycle. At the same time, a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling east, approaching Boudreaux. For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge struck the rear of the bicycle.
