Gulf Coast Bank employees fundraised for coworker, childhood cancer survivor

During the month of November Gulf Coast Bank’s employees fundraised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through various in-house fundraisers as well as a contribution from the bank.
Brooke Pridgen, who works in Gulf Coast Bank’s Loan Operations Center (LOC), is a childhood cancer survivor who spent much of her young life at St. Jude’s. She even served as their Bike-a-thon poster child for 3 years.

Two Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s deputies with combined 51 years experience are retiring

Due to retirement, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is losing two deputies, who have more than 51 years of combined experience.
Saying goodbye to the Sheriff’s Office are Detective Sgt. Kim Verret and Detective Lt. Joann Hargrave Housden.
Housden’s final day was Dec. 31 of 2017, and Verret’s final day is Saturday.

Special Council meeting focuses on solutions for crime

Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy will not have to consider overtime restrictions when scheduling officers for patrol during the next week.
The Abbeville City Council voted unanimously during a special meeting Wednesday morning to lift the cap on overtime for the Police Department through Jan. 3. The move is in response to recent shootings that occurred in the city, one that left a teenager dead. City officials hope that more patrol can help deter similar instances.

Eunice man arrested for burglaries

CROWLEY — Deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, working with St. Landry Sheriff’s Office and Eunice Police have arrested an individual on burglary charges, according to a news release from Sheriff K.P. Gibson.
Brandon Charpentier, 25, of Eunice was arrested by Eunice Police on warrants issued by all three of the above listed agencies.

One Acadiana names Troy Wayman President & CEO

LAFAYETTE – One Acadiana (1A) today announced the selection of Troy Wayman as its next president and CEO. Wayman currently is Vice President of Economic Development for the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, a 2,000-member organization and economic development group. His appointment is effective February 15. Jim Bourgeois, 1A’s Interim President & CEO and Executive Director of Business Development since 2015, will serve throughout the transition.
