Kaplan High’s Renfrow named Kiwanis Student of the Month

When Reed Renfrow sets a goal for himself, don’t bet against him working hard to achieve that goal.
Renfrow, now a senior at Kaplan High, fell in love with Baylor University as a middle school student. He would wear hooded sweatshirts with the logo of the Waco, Texas school.
“People would tell me that I could never get in,” Renfrow said.
He did.

Links Des Pink looking to grow

On Tuesday, February 19, Links Des Pink Cancer Organization will hold an open house at the Vermilion Parish Library in hopes of gaining new volunteers as well as donations.
Founded in 2007, the Links des Pink Cancer Organization became the very first non-profit cancer awareness and support organization in Vermilion Parish. The organization began with only a few dedicated individuals who united with one another for a better cause; to help those going through cancer and organizations trying to stop cancer.

To help provide vision and direction for the staff and programming is the organization’s 15-member board representing Vermilion Parish cities, towns, and government organizations as well as the Chamber of Commerce.

Kaplan High School becomes pilot for new school security system

KAPLAN — Dr. Janet Guerrini, KHS Principal, has always kept her students’ safety at the top of her list of goals. This year, she took safety a step forward with a new security system for the school. Sound & Communication Systems, Inc has a solution for all schools to ensure the safety of everyone inside. Kaplan High School is the first school in the parish to use the system.

Despite what is built around the camper, the town of Delcambre wants residents who live in a camper to be able to haul off the camper twice a year to meet FEMA regulations.

DELCAMBRE — If you are living in a camper in Delcambre, it has be moved twice a year if it is not elevated.
An ordinance for the town of Delcambre was introduced; as required by FEMA, states that any recreational vehicle (RV, camper) is required to be moved from its location for at least 24 hours.
According to www.laseagrant.org, recreational vehicles in A and V flood zones has to be moved every 180 days.
