A group of Abbeville citizens hope to save the old James A Herod building built in the late 1950s.
At 6 o'clock tonight at the McKinely Scott Park in Abbeville, Cathy Walker and others will make a plea to save the historical school building located on Martin Luther King Drive.
The building, which is not occupied, has sat empty for the last couple of years. It has not been a public school in more than 20 years.
At the gathering tonight, a group of Abbeville citizens will explain their long-term plans to repair the old Herod school.

BATON ROUGE — Gov. John Bel Edwards on Tuesday announced that he will extend Louisiana’s current Phase Two order, which also includes a statewide mask mandate, limits indoor social gatherings to 50 people and prohibits on-premises consumption of alcohol at bars for another two weeks, as COVID-19 incidence remains high across the state and hospitalizations continue to rise. All of the latest restrictions outlined in the Phase Two order are in keeping with recommendations from the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

The Vermilion Parish School District decided to modify the face mask covering policy.
On Thursday, the school adopted a policy that students from third grade to 12 grade and staff members are required to wear face-covering to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Bus drivers will also be required to wear a face-covering while students are loading and unloading from the school bus.
On Monday, the school board modified the school mask policy that they first adopted at Thursday’s meeting.
