‘No ordinary’ love story

Challi Romero Muguira and Stephen Anthony Muguira have an incredible love story or as Challi calls it, “A far from ordinary love.”
The pair met through a dating site. They were from two different towns in Louisiana. Long distance, usually being an issue for most new couples, came as a challenge to them. Not your typical challenge, though, but rather your ‘bring it on’ type of challenge.
Their friendship turned into love. Their love turned into pure adoration.

Now that the old station has been torn down, the new station will be rebuilt and is expected to open at the end of this year.

Reopening of Abbeville Fire Department's Substation No. 2 in motion

It has been more than a year and a half since a shift has operated out of the Abbeville Fire Department’s Substation No. 2.
Work is underway to make sure that takes places by the end of this year.
The station, located on Morgan Street on the west side of the Vermilion River, has been closed since Aug. 13, 2016, when it suffered heavy damage during the historic flood.
“Time goes by fast,” Abbeville Fire Chief Jude Mire said.

Early voting for March 24 elections begins Saturday

What has been a long champaign road for candidates around Vermilion Parish is winding down as the March 24 elections are three weeks away.
Voters in the parish will have an opportunity to get out and support their respective candidates before that date.
Early voting will begin this Saturday, March 10. It will conclude on Saturday, March 17. It will be open each day, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding Sunday, March 11. Voters can cast ballots at Registrar of Voters Mike Bertrand’s Office on the first floor of the Vermilion Parish Courthouse in downtown Abbeville.

Gueydan Duck Festival Association wins awards

The Gueydan Duck Festival Association recently attended the Louisiana Fairs and Festivals Convention in Baton Rouge. The organization was the recipient of several awards for District 3 Division 1. Winning Best Cap, Best Brochure, Hall of Fame recipient; Ronnie Lougon and Volunteer of The Year; Judy LeBlanc.
