Close to 700 years of experience retires from Vermilion Parish School System

At a special get-together this week, the Vermilion Parish School Board recognized the retirees from the public school system.
There were 25 employees who had 20 or more years with the school system.
That totaled nearly 700 years of experience walking away from the school system.
“Congratulations to the employees who retired from our school system last school year. We thank you for serving the Vermilion Parish School System,” said Superintendent Tommy Byler.
Leah Bernard had the most years with 46 years, and Jackie Broussard had 42.

Vermilion Parish students receive degrees during UL Lafayette Spring commencement ceremonies

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is celebrated its Spring 2023 graduates during Commencement ceremonies this past weekend.
The university conferred a total of 1,641 degrees.
Individual Commencement ceremonies for UL Lafayette’s eight academic colleges were held at the Cajundome and Convention Center.
The University conferred 1,273 bachelor’s degrees. Among this total are 35 students who have maintained a 4.0 GPA, the most summa cum laude graduates in a single semester in University history.

Vermilion Parish Police Jury questions Cox Cable about closing Abbeville office

The closing of the Cox Communications store in Abbeville in November created a hardship for many of Vermilion Parish’s older, rural residents, and Vermilion Parish Police Jury members let a representative of Cox Cable know at the police jury meeting on Wednesday that they are unhappy with the company’s decision.

Rotary Club of Abbeville honors public servants

Thank you.
Those two words can mean so much, especially when said to a public servant.
On Wednesday, the Rotary Club of Abbeville said its annual thanks to public servants in the city with the Rotary Public Servant of the Year Award presentations.
“We appreciate everything you do for our community,” Rotary Club President John Suire told those in attendance. “This is one way we like to show our appreciation.”

Delcambre to enter into agreement with school board over land for future city park

DELCAMBRE — Delcambre Mayor Pam Blakely attended the recent Iberia Parish School Board meeting and came back with an agreement for the town’s planned park property on the corner of Main and Pelloat streets, she told the Board of Aldermen at its monthly meeting on Monday.
The board then voted to authorize the mayor to enter into an agreement for the property. The cooperative endeavor agreement for development of the property requires that the town send all plan specifications to the school board for approval prior to construction, town attorney Gabe Duhon said.
