U.S. Marshal’s Service catches violent fugitive from Vermilion Parish

The United States Marshal’s Service apprehended a violent Vermilion Parish fugitive this past week.
On June 24, 2024, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Lafayette Police Department that a shooting victim had been found unconscious in their jurisdiction after losing consciousness while attempting to drive to the hospital.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrived on scene to assist Lafayette Police Department, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital.
Upon learning that the shooting incident occurred in Vermilion Parish, Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Detectives were immediately called to the hospital.
After being admitted to the hospital and treated for the injury, the victim was interviewed by Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office Detectives.
With the rapid response and first aid provided by the Lafayette Police Department and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, the victim was able to make it to the hospital without suffering any severe complications.
Detectives were able to identify Robert Sinegal Jr. ( Date of birth 02/24/1985) of Abbeville as the person who fired at the victim.
Gabrielle Duhon (DOB 08/11/2000) was also identified as having taken part in the incident. Arrest warrants were obtained for Sinegal and Duhon.
After the incident, Sinegal and Duhon departed the Vermilion Parish area where they frequently relocated to new locations and residents in efforts to evade apprehension.

Sinegal remains incarcerated at the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center (VPCC) on a charge of Attempted Second-Degree Murder with a bond of $300,000.
Duhon remains in the custody of the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on other charges. She will be transported to VPCC upon completion of her custody there for a charge of Accessory to Attempted Second-Degree Murder.

Sinegal’s criminal history reflected a pattern of violent crimes toward both Law Enforcement and the public.
Out of caution for the public and to utilize the resources available to them, the United States Marshal’s Service was contacted to assist the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office in the apprehension of both suspects.
On August 26, 2024, after continual investigation by both agencies, Sinegal and Duhon were both successfully apprehended in Lafayette by the United States Marshal’s Service without incident. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Lafayette Police Department, and the Lafayette City Marshals Office assisted the United States Marshals Service with this apprehension.
Sheriff Eddie Langlinais is no stranger to the United States Marshal’s Service’s apprehension efforts and would like to extend a personal thank you to the agency and all assisting agencies for apprehending both suspects without any injury to citizens or officers.
Sheriff Langlinais remains committed to the safety of Vermilion Parish and stated he will use all resources available to ensure the safety and security of our citizens.
As Sheriff Langlinais has said “Everyone is familiar with their federal tax obligation, but often the federal government’s resources are underused by local agencies.”
The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is committed to using all available resources for crime prevention and suspect apprehension, including the ample resources of the federal government, with which he is so familiar.
