Kevin Meyers seeking District B seat on Vermilion Parish School Board

Citizens of District B,

My name is Kevin Meyers, and I am announcing my candidacy for the Vermilion Parish School Board District B seat.
I was born and raised in Abbeville and am a graduate of Abbeville High School. For the last 27 years, I have resided in Maurice and have been an active member of the North Vermilion community.
I have been married for 31 years to Monica Duhon Meyers, a graduate of North Vermilion High School. We have 3 daughters: Taylor LaPorte, who is married to Mark LaPorte; Claire Armstrong, who is married to Caleb Armstrong, and Katherine LeBlanc, who is married to Luke LeBlanc. Monica and I also have one grandson, Jackson Todd LaPorte, and another grandchild on the way. Our daughters all attended Cecil Picard Elementary and are alumnae of North Vermilion High School.
My involvement in the District B community for many years leaves no question that I am devoted to supporting and fostering growth in the youth in our area. I have served them and our local communities in several capacities:
• North Vermilion Youth Association Coach
• Current member of the Abbeville High Hall of Fame Committee, serving for the last 17 years
• Vice President North Vermilion Patriot Athletic Club (10 years)
• President North Vermilion Patriot Athletic Club (3 years)
• Non-Faculty (CECP) Coach at North Vermilion High School (9 years)
• Past member of the Vermilion Charter Foundation Board
• Currently a volunteer assistant coach on the UL Ragin Cajun Softball staff

In terms of education and leadership, I obtained my bachelor’s degree in finance from USL and my master’s degree in healthcare administration from the College of St. Francis. I have over 30 years of leadership experience in healthcare in the realms of safety, budgeting, strategic planning, performance improvement, and supply chain services.
Being elected as your school board representative would afford me the opportunity to further serve Vermilion Parish at large and specifically District B and our schools. I am committed to continuing to provide exemplary educational opportunities for our youth who are the future of our community. I will serve you, my fellow citizens, with unwavering dedication, professionalism, compassion, and understanding. I promise to listen to your concerns with an open mind and will work diligently to find reasonable solutions that best serve the stakeholders of District B and Vermilion Parish, as we all want the highest quality of education for our kids. My 30 years of proven successful leadership in the healthcare industry will be an asset if I am fortunate enough to be afforded the opportunity to undertake this new endeavor as your school board representative.
This community is my home. Monica and I have raised our children here. Our girls were guided and taught in the schools in our community, and Monica and I know that we owe gratitude to these schools and our school system for the exemplary education our daughters were given. We want the same for our grandchildren who will one day walk the halls of the same schools our children were so lucky to attend, and I want to be a part of ensuring the tradition of excellence continues in our schools for my grandchildren and all the children of our community.
Therefore, I, Kevin Meyers, humbly ask for your support and your vote for Vermilion Parish School Board District B seat on March 26, 2022.
