ZACHARY -- A candidate for chief of police remains a a leading suspect candidate in a grisly homicide.

David Brown, 36, qualified to run in the Oct. 2 primary. He is described by Police Capt. David McDavid as “the main suspect” in the shooting death of Tamara Dupuy, 25.

Dupuy, Brown’s fiance at the time of her death, as found shot several times, handcuffed and bleeding to death in a washateria about a year ago.

Brown has an arrest record by no felony convictions, which would prohibit him seeking elected office.

He says he’s been cleared in the murder case; McDavid says that’s not so.
