Murphy Joseph Vincent

Murphy Joseph Vincent was born in Rayne, LA, in 1933 to Freddie Vincent Sr. and Pamela Norris Vincent. He was a longtime resident of Virginia and North Carolina before settling back in Louisiana.
Murphy, 89, currently of Erath, LA, passed away on August 29, 2022. Though his family is saddened by his passing, they find joy in knowing he will be reunited with his late wife, Frances Ann Strickland Vincent.
He was preceded in death by his wife Frances; his parents, Freddie Vincent Sr. and Pamela Norris Vincent; as well as three of his sisters, Lovenia barker, Mayful Hebert, and Delsey Perrin; five of his brothers, Roland Vincent, L.J. Vincent, Carson Vincent, Freddie Vincent Jr., and Jimmy Vincent.
He is survived by his sisters, Diana Callahan and Jeanette Miguez, and his brother Tommy Vincent (Connie); his two children, Lisa VandeWater (her three children and one grandchild) and David Vincent and his wife Marcia (Their six children, twenty-two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild).
Murphy served in the United States Army for 20 years and was in the 82nd airborne in Germany; he was a Korean War veteran and served two tours in Vietnam. He was a paratrooper, Military Police Investigator, and Senior Food Service Sergeant. His military decorations include a Senior Parachutist Badge, a Bronze Star, two Army Commendation Medals, six Army Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Medals, an Armed-Forces Expeditionary Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Korean Defense Medal, a Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association, the Disabled American Veterans Association, the American Legion Post 29, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 4158.
A service will be held in his honor by the American Legion Post 29 in Abbeville, LA (3319 Veterans Memorial Dr., Abbeville, LA 70510) and will take place on September 21, 2022, at their regularly scheduled meeting.
Interment will be held in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Hampton, VA, next to his wife, Frances, on October 22, 2022.
