Jerry Don Wilson

August 1, 1949 ~ January 20, 2022

ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville honoring the life of J. Don Wilson, 72, who passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on January 20, 2022.
He will be laid to rest at St. Alphonsus Cemetery with Pastor Gabe Smith officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Jude Mathews, Nicky Armoney, David Armoney, Dylan Wilmore, Billy Duplechein and Casey Broussard. Honorary pallbearer Johnny Dauzat.
Don was a native of Baton Rouge, then moved to Abbeville, LA where he resided for 32 years and has lived on Three Mile Lake in Port Barre for the last 9 years.
Don had an entrepreneur spirt and owned various businesses over his lifetime. He was in HVAC-R work for over 56 years but C M M I Corp was his final business servicing the commercial ice machine industry. He also formed Consolidate Ice – “Chilly Willy” in the 80’s and Seafood Emporium where he had cultured both soft shell crawfish and crabs. During that time, he has made may great friendships with business partners and customers
Don lived life to the fullest. He was outgoing and could brighten any crowd with his humor and personality.
His love of music, specifically Swamp Pop kept his feet busy on the dance floor many nights. However, he also was an avid fisherman for both sac-a-lait and red fish. Many mornings his trusty boat and jig pole where in a body of water somewhere in South Louisiana hunting the “Big One”. Once the fish were cleaned it was time to watch football – especially LSU or the Saints. Whether his was cheering them on or fussing at the play, he was front and center.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sylvia “Sally” Wilson; devoted daughter, Nikki Wilson Duplechein (Billy); grandson, Dylan Wilmore (Bailey); and step brothers, Jude Mathews (Jane) and Linton Dubea (Susan). There are so many cousins that should be mentioned, but just too many to name except his favorite Brenda Dauzat Bickford they had a very special bond throughout their years.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Kristopher Wilson and John Wilson; parents, Otis Wilson and Ella Dean Mathews; step-father, Tut Mathews; and grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Wilson.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles St., on Friday, January 28, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 11 a.m. until time of services.
The family wishes to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the medical staff at Cancer Center of Acadiana, specifically Dr Michael Cain and Allison Bertrand, NP. Also, Hospice of Acadiana staff were perfect in their care and help during this difficult time.
We won’t say goodbye to Don but say “until we meet again”.
