Abbeville officer injured in collision involving suspect

An Abbeville police officer was injured over the weekend when the vehicle it was driving was hit head-on by Cedric Evans, who was fleeing the Abbeville Police Department in his vehicle.
According to Police Chief Mike Hardy, the officer injured its right ankle and left foot in the crash. The officer is expected to recover.
The police department was looking into a complaint of a home invasion and domestic voilence.
While the officers were arriving on the scene, the complainant stated that Evans was leaving in a Buick.

Downtown streets in Abbeville will one day be resurfaced

Abbeville Mayor Roslyn White and the council have heard complaints about the street conditions in downtown Abbeville.
The good news is that a plan is in the works to repair and resurface the streets in the downtown area.
The city team, including Mayor White, have been meeting with Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) officials about the project. The roads that circle Magdalen Square, the Courthouse, and in front of St. Mary Magdalen Church are State highways.

Domestic abuse call in Abbeville leads to attempted murder charges

One man sits in prison today after being charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, kidnapping and other charges.
According to the Abbeville Police Department, on Saturday June 3, 2023, at approximately 4 a.m., the Abbeville Police Department responded to a call of a home invasion.
The complainant advised that her sister is staying at her home due to her being in a domestic encounter with the suspect threating to kill her and her children, which began in Iberia Parish.

Several from Vermilion Parish take part in McNeese State University’s Spring Commencement ceremonies

McNeese State University conferred degrees on 703 graduates during two ceremonies for the university’s 160th commencement on Friday, May 12, in McNeese’s Legacy Center.
The ceremony for the colleges of agricultural sciences, liberal arts and science, engineering and mathematics were held at 9 a.m. and for the Burton College of Education and colleges of business and nursing and health professions at 1:30 p.m.
