Let it snow...Let it snow....Let it snow!!
LOOK AT THE SNOW! - While other communities in the area saw a few inches of snow on the ground last week, Kaplan did see a small amount in the early morning hours which quickly turned to rain. However, some vehicles that stayed outside overnight could be seen with an accumlation of snow on their hoods. More snow could be found in north Vermilion Parish.
Broussard's retirement only makes life busier

Retirement, generally speaking, is a coveted period in life where one can finally hang up their career hat and slip into a more relaxed frame of mind.
For others, as in Kenneth Broussard’s case, retirement is just a gateway into a busier lifestyle!
Kaplan native Kenneth Broussard is the son of the Dorothy Broussard and the late Elie Broussard, Jr.
After graduating from Kaplan High School in 1968, Kenneth continued his education at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, formerly USL, where he reconnected with his now wife and Kaplan native, Myra Primeaux Broussard.
Two Kaplan residents arrested for burglary

Two Kaplan residents are behind bars after a Vermilion Parish detective assisting the patrol division observed a suspicious vehicle at a paint and body shop located off of La. Hwy 167 north of Abbeville.
According to a news release by Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the detective was conducting routine patrol at approximately 4:23 a.m. when the officer observed suspicious activity at Allen’s Paint and Body Shop.
When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle fled away.
Bank officials say systems not breached

Numerous Kaplan residents made the right decision to call the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office after receiving suspicious phone calls relating to their private bank accounts.
According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the concerned individuals received phone calls from unknown persons indicating their banks accounts had been compromised.
Couvillon stated these calls had originated from “spoofed” or untraceable numbers originating from foreign countries.

City employees receive turkeys

TURKEY GIVEAWAY - The Mayor and City Councilmen for the City of Kaplan personally donated turkeys to all city employees last week.
