Qualifying ends for March election

The first day of qualifying was a busy one at the Clerk of Court’s Office in Abbeville.
In Kaplan, with Linda Hardee announcing she will not run for a second term as mayor, the office is up for grabs.
J.J Landry and Kirk Champagne both qualified for the Kaplan’s mayor’s race.
In Abbeville, present mayor, Mark Piazza, qualified.
The cities of Kaplan and Abbeville will have new police chiefs. Kaplan Police Chief Steve Perry and Abbeville Police Chief Rick Coleman are both not seeking re-elections.
Virgie LeMaire qualified for the chief’s race in Kaplan on the first day. Qualifying the next day were Boyd Adams and Ray A. Gaspard, totalling three in the Chief of Police race.
For the Councilman at Large seat – Dolores Broussard and Herbert Gaspard Jr. both qualified.
In District B, Jerry Touchet qualified while Kevin Guidry qualified for District D.
Eva Dell Morrison qualified for District A race and Brent DuBois for District C in Kaplan.
Qualifying ended Feb. 5 for the upcoming March elections.
